i've been using gantoo for a while now and did 5-6 installs in total (on fast computers for desktop use) but now i'm installing om my puny p2 233 128mb for "server" use, no screen, only through ssh input, but it has to run apache, samba that kinda stuff.
but why does it want to emerge X, qt2, qt3 as a dependency for phpmyadmin?
idem for samba, X is required??
doens't really make sense to me... _________________ "Never argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." |

Look at /etc/make.profile/make.defaults, which has a default set of USE flags, probably including X. Set USE="-X" in your /etc/make.conf file to override this. phpmyadmin depends on PHP, which wants to bring in X if USE X is defined. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

I think you should read the Gentoo Guide to USE flags:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/use-howto.html
You can say not to use X qt, and things like this:
USE="-X -qt etc...."
in your /etc/make.conf |
