I'm currently using Freesco 0.2.7 on a P133 box with 80MB RAM as a firewall to my LAN. After doing a lot of configuring on my web server and game server with IPTABLES, I think I would like IPTABLES (instead of IPFWADM) protecting my network on a Gentoo system.
Would Gentoo, dedicated only to running IPTABLES and filtering all my network traffic, be able to properly run on a P133 w/ 80MB RAM?
This brings up another question. If Gentoo will cope with the P133, I would like to make a 'read-only' install of Gentoo (ie, boot off of CD). Does anyone know of a tutorial for making a custom LiveCD? _________________ only the paranoid survive |

Hi!
Depends on the bandwith we're talking about i'd say...
everything above a saturated T3 line and a (internal /24 network) could become problematic!
If (what i believe) you are talking about 1-2MBit with some boxes behind -> no problem.
The biggest problem you will run into is the time to compile and install everything.
