I'm having a bit of a problem with my Radeon. I compiled the kernel (without DRI) as instructed by the HOWTO for radeons, emerged ati-drivers, emerged alsa, ran fxglrconfig, did opengl-update ati and all that went well. I type startx, the screen goes black, the monitor turns off, then on, then about 15 secs later, it loads into x-windows. Unfortunately, the keyboard and mouse is frozen and I can only do a hard reset to get out of it. I've used the schneider drivers before (which i'm assuming ati-drivers are?) in Redhat 9 and they worked fine. Any idea why X is freezing? I browsed the forums, couldn't find anyone with a solution. Thanks |

Check your logs.
grep -e EE -e WW /var/log/XFree86.0.log
See if the modules are loaded.
lsmod | grep -e agp -e fglrx
If not, try modprobe $module and see what the error is.
Also, dmesg | grep -i -e agp -e fglrx. |
