I'm running Gentoo in a headless VirtualBox instance. Initially I installed kde and used kdm as the display manager. This worked alright but kde was unworkably slow so I removed the kde packages and installed xfce4 instead, with xdm and xsm. Now, I can't connect. I have: /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config: | DisplayManager.requestPort: 1 | and the X server command (which worked with kde) is X -port 3890 -query 192.168.0.3 -- that port option is necessary because I'm using a VirtualBox redirection rule, and it did work OK with kde.
X just hangs but if I remove or comment-out the DisplayManager.requestPort: 1 line, X quits immediately with the message (from memory) Host unwilling, display manager unwilling.
What element of the incantation have I missed ? _________________ Michael Mounteney |
