I've read the init FAQ, and it is pretty good. One thing I'd really like explained (or put into a flow diagram) is the flow control of the startup process (and shutdown for that matter)

What file (and where) is used and when control changes to the next file. Would make digesting the process a bit easier.

If someone has already done this, can you direct me to where?

Maybe my request is unclear.

In what order are boot files called during startup?

To use an upopular analog:

CONFIG.SYS -> AUTOEXEC.BAT -> SYSTEM.INI -> WIN.INI -> SYSTEM.DAT
