I replaced my old SSD with a new one some days ago and since then I've been getting long IO stalls. It happens mostly when I use the web browser (opera). It freeze for about 10 sec and during that time gkrellm shows constant writing at 50k/sec to the SSD. Latencytop shows that the stall is caused by opera running fsync on it's database and this can take more than 10,000 ms.
My new and old setup it almost identical. The root partition is on an dm-crypt partition on /dev/sdb2. FS is ext4 using discard, noatime, nodiratime,. The only difference is that sdb is now an Intel 520 and before an Intel 330 SSD. I guess the problem is related to the time it takes to run trim on the disk. Any suggestions for how to solve this? The only thing I can think of now is to turn off discard and run fstrim manually from time to time. |

Intel hasn't released any firmware updates for the 520 series. |
