Hello everyone I am having a real hard time installing on my first ssd. I keep getting read only file system when extracting the stage 3 tar ball. I have used gentoo for years but this is my first ssd. I erases it with the "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX bs=4m" command I dont think it is the drive because I had it working once but had a problem with the firmware for my new hd 6770 card . Any help would be great. |

aortell24,
If its not the drive, its the data cable or the motherboard.
You don't need to write zeros to an SSD. mke2fs will trim it all when you make your filesystem(s).
Thats much better than writing zeros as the FLASH controller knows everything is erased. _________________ Regards,

aortell24,
Get the block alignment right.
Choose a fs that supports trim and make sure you use it.
Thats all. _________________ Regards,
