|
|
I was regurlarly working on my system on CLI when I suddenly got an I/O error (sorry, I don't remember the literal error message), then any command was "not found". Reboot was not possible due to kernel panic and root partion can't be mounted on a live system because of "bad superblocks".
I know that the only solution to this problem is reformat and reinstall, but I wonder what has actually happened here, in order to avoid that something like that will happen again.
I have used a new SSD, so it's not because of a broken storage medium, but the computer is rather old, so there could be other hardware problems.
Any ideas here? |

Typically something like this happens when there's a hardware issue - I/O errors usually are not caused by software. Once a serious I/O error occurs like cable disconnect or power loss, every command will show up as not found on that disk if it wasn't already cached in RAM. You'll need to make sure your disk media (SSD?), cables, PSU, disk controller, etc. are still working properly or has one of them died already?
Don't assume it's not the SSD just yet... it also could be the combination of the SSD with your computer (incompatibility)... _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD
