I just bought a brand new HP49G+ calculator. It has an usb-cable which can be used to connect the calculator to the computer. The only problem is that there is only Windows software available on the installation/manual cd. :( Is it even possible to connect 49G+ to linux?

My previous calculator was TI-86 which I connected to Linux using TI's own software with Wine.

Wow this is an old thread. I'll get it back to life. :)

I have an HP49g+ and is having problems connection it. I do:

Code:
enterprise root # modprobe usbserial vendor=0x3f0 product=0x121

as per a million howtos on the web. (I followed this one
dmesg tells me that the module is loaded fine, however when i plug in the calc and turn it on nothing happens. dmesg is supposed to tell that it's attached to some device.

What gives?

For reference. The last few lines from dmesg

Code:
drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial support registered for Generic
usbcore: registered new driver usbserial_generic
usbcore: registered new driver usbserial
drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial Driver core v2.0

... /proc/bus/usb/devices says

Code:
T:  Bus=01 Lev=00 Prnt=00 Port=00 Cnt=00 Dev#=  1 Spd=480 MxCh= 6
B:  Alloc=  0/800 us ( 0%), #Int=  0, #Iso=  0
D:  Ver= 2.00 Cls=09(hub  ) Sub=00 Prot=01 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs=  1
P:  Vendor=0000 ProdID=0000 Rev= 2.06
S:  Manufacturer=Linux 2.6.10-gentoo-r6 ehci_hcd
S:  Product=nVidia Corporation nForce2 USB Controller
S:  SerialNumber=0000:00:02.2
C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=e0 MxPwr=  0mA
I:  If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=09(hub  ) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=hub
E:  Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS=   2 Ivl=256ms

Oh yeah, I'm running 2.6.10-gentoo-r6 but it didn't work when I was running 2.6.8-gentoo-r3 either.

edit: perhaps some moderator could move this to a more appropriate sub forum like 'Kernel and hardware'.

edit2: actually something is working. When I turn the calculator on I can hear a small pause in my music if I'm using xmms. Strange.
