well the problem is simple.. apm doesn't work after I reinstalled gentoo.
I hat forgotten to add apm support in the kernel and in make.conf.. so did that but still the 'puter just wont shutdown without me hitting the powerswitch (and that is just sooooo eicky to do!! )
any1 know what could be wrong... maybe I just need to recompile some of the sys-utils... in that case, which?

Is apmd trying to start and failing, or not even trying at all?
If it is the first, make sure that the newest compile of the kernel you did is the one that grub (or lilo) is pointing to.
If it isn't trying to start at all then you need to 'rc-update add apmd default'.
If that doesn't fly, try re-emerge apmd.
