Welcome to Gentoo.
First, you need to establish where your performance bottlenecks are.
Then you can determine if what your need is a real speed improvement or just for the system to be more responsive.
Gains in responsiveness usually come at the cost of throughput - so performance goes down.
Responsiveness can sometimes be improved in software, throughput improvements will mean new parts.
