just a network card??
Is this possible?
There are other computers on the network, which I can load anything on. I'll have the replacement cdrom for the lappy in a week or 2, but I figure its gonna take that long to get gentoo+progs completely installed on this k6-2 450mhz (full from scratch build, optimized for the k6-2). |

Read the alternate installation guide, section five, (netboot install) http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/altinstall.xml#doc_chap5. This should do it for you, however, if you have further problems, just let us know in the forum.
Please let us know how it turns out.

Whoa, that's new. The gentoo dev's are really covering all the bases here!
I'll get the nic by monday, I'll try this then. I will definately report my experiences. The main problem I forsee is getting it to boot into a gentoo environment, but I'm sure thats what netboot is.
Thanks for the info. |

Between now and monday, you should be able to boot your laptop into grub off of a floppy. Then it is only a case of loading the nic driver, and starting the install.
Keep us informed, if you find any problems with the alt install doc, let the maintainer know.

There is a thread going that talks about how to make a usb memory stick that can work as a LiveCD.
Gosh. These would be great things for the Gentoo store. |
