Perhaps related to upgrading udev and this post, https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-948834.html , my once perfectly fine and working simple Logitech USB Wheel Mouse no longer works. I have no more hair to pull out, trying to figure out what the problem could be.
When I plug it in /var/log/messages says Code: | usb 3-3: new low-speed USB device number 4 using ohci_hcd |
"udevadm monitor" says Code: | KERNEL[261.708791] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:13.1/usb3/3-3 (usb)
KERNEL[261.710642] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:13.1/usb3/3-3/3-3:1.0 (usb)
KERNEL[261.717670] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:13.1/usb3/3-3/3-3:1.0/0003:046D:C00C.0003 (hid)
UDEV [261.719832] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:13.1/usb3/3-3 (usb)
UDEV [261.722015] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:13.1/usb3/3-3/3-3:1.0 (usb)
UDEV [261.723815] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:13.1/usb3/3-3/3-3:1.0/0003:046D:C00C.0003 (hid) |
Xorg.0.log says nothing when I plug/unplug it. (I tried compiling xorg-server-1.12 with and without udev USE flag. It tried compiling xorg-server-1.11. I tried installing xf86-input-evdev, which I wasn't using before and so shouldn't be necessary? I can't install xorg-server-1.13 because that requires KMS, which is broken for me atm :s. But I have a feeling this isn't an xorg-server problem?)
I don't think my xorg-server with USE=udev is able to see my mouse -- there is no special mention of it in my Xorg.0.log -- just references to my synaptics touchpad.
My mouse *does not* show up when I "cat /proc/bus/input/devices", although my laptop's keyboard and touchpad are there. I'm guessing the problem is closer to here?
"lsusb" shows Code: | Bus 003 Device 006: ID 046d:c00c Logitech, Inc. Optical Wheel Mous |
Currently, I'm using:
Code: | sys-fs/udev-197-r9
sys-fs/udev-init-scripts-23
x11-base/xorg-server-1.12.4 +udev +xorg +suid +nptl +ipv6
kernel 3.8.0 |

(This should probably get moved to "Desktop Environments", since the hardware is working/detected by the kernel.) |

Problem solved. I didn't have CONFIG_HID_GENERIC in my newer kernels . Apologies! |
