XDM fails to login - just resets to the login prompt - it's configured to start a default runlevel
New AMD64 - no-mulitlib build and yes X works fine.
Here's the XDM Log:
Note that XDM did shutdown properly once I switched back to vt1 using lft: ctrl/alt/f1 and logged in as root.

Which kind of session do you intend to open when using xdm for login?
Which display manager did u configure:
Code: | # grep DISPLAYMANAGER /etc/conf.d/xdm
DISPLAYMANAGER="gdm"
|
Does startx as your ordinary user bring up the expected WM/desktop environment?
Content of ~/.xinitrc? |

I'm using the default of xdm as that's what I installed
What it's doing is simply reseting to a blank log-in after I've entered user/pw combo and there's no log as to what failed. If I had that, I'd at least have a starting point to figure out what is wrong. |

my .xinitrc
exec startxfluxbox
works for root and daily user
XDM just resets the log-in - clears the entries |
