I've installed digikam for KDE, and the USB-hotplugging is working as far as I can tell, because it pops up in the USB-devices list in the KDE Info Center when I plug it in.
Digikam is not able to autoconfigure it though - it's not being detected.
How is this supposed to work?

1) try the same as root. (this is an easy check for hotplug configuration errors)
1B) try again after switching on and off the camera.
2) try gphoto2 from the command line and post some error message :)
"gphoto2 --list-files"
3) report back here if things don't work out .

Thanks for reply. It didn't work out as root either.
Code:
maestro root # gphoto2 --list-files --camera="Logitech Pocket Digital"

*** Error ***
You have to set the port prior initialization of the camera.

*** Error ***
An error occurred in the io-library ('Unknown port'): No error description available
*** Error (-5: 'Unknown port') ***

For debugging messages, please use the --debug option.
Debugging messages may help finding a solution to your problem.
If you intend to send any error or debug messages to the gphoto
developer mailing list <gphoto-devel@lists.sourceforge.net>, please run
gphoto2 as follows:

    env LANG=C gphoto2 --debug --list-files --camera=Logitech Pocket Digital

Please make sure there is sufficient quoting around the arguments.

Also (some people forget): make sure your camera is in the "play" postion, where it shows you pictures and does not take pictures.
Plug in the cable, and then restart the camera.

In gphoto2-2.1.2 the camera should be supported according to the docs.
What happens if you skip the "--camera="Logitech Pocket Digital" part, and just type: gphoto2 --list-files ?
