Hello!
I have problem starting Enlightenment from SLiM. It will go back to login screen when I login. 
XSESSION variable was set in 90xsession. |

That only works if there is a script in /etc/X11/Sessions/ with the same name. You will have to create one, which is simple:
/etc/X11/Sessions/e16:
| Code: | #!/usr/bin/env bash
/usr/bin/starte16 |
and: chmod +x /etc/X11/Sessions/e16
to make it executable.
For Enlightenment 17, it's /usr/bin/enlightenment_start. |

now I see that file works with gdm and E17 will start if I use one display.
However, dual display will cause X-server segmentation fault! |

Have you configured X for dual displays?
Do other WM work with dual displays?
Have you configured the kernel and are you using the correct drivers for your video card?
Are you using composting?
Are you using xinerama?
Are you using twinview? |

I can enable dual monitor if I connect HDMI cable after logging in E17(with xrandr).

no, because I've read The xorg.conf should be seen as a "lastresort" option

I have the same problem. It's a mystery to me so if anyone has any suggestions I'd like to hear them.
I manage four computers. Three use e16 and one xfce4. I have set up slim identically on all four, with XSESSION set in ~/.bashrc and /etc/env.d/90xsession. The xfce4 computer and one of the e16 machines give the desired result, and the other two will not, although the settings in /etc/slim.conf and /etc/X11/Sessions are the same on all machines. I even get the correct reading "Enlightenment" (The name of my script in "Sessions" ), coming up on pressing F1.
It does seem that there must be some other program requirement other than those mentioned, so if anyone is aware of it then perhaps they could post a message.
The result of all this is that I have reluctantly installed gdm with all the extra gnome programs required just to run it. I say reluctantly, but it does do what is said on the tin!
NB. they all work with startx, which I note is all that the /usr/bin/starte16 program calls. |

Are there any ~/.xsession scripts in the user directories? They are executed instead of scripts in /etc/X11/Sessions/ if they exist. In that case the XSESSION variable is ignored.
Btw ~/.xinitrc in the user directory is only used by the "startx" command, sometimes people symlink ~/.xinitrc and ~/.xsession)
Btw2 If /etc/X11/Sessions/Enlightenment, then XSESSION="Enlightenment" (must have the same name)

No. No xsession scripts. I've pretty well decided to stick with gdm or startx now, since how one gets into a desktop is rather less important than using the desktop and perfecting the programs, and I'd rather spend my time on that!
