|
|
Hello, I've been trying to configure my Lexmark 3200 printer by following the printing HOW-TO here at the Gentoo site. Now I"m not sure if I followed the compiling of the kernel correctly so I'll explain what I did:
I emerged cups and foomatic and then I went into my kernel directory which is /usr/src/linux-2.4.0.20-gaming-r3 and typed in:
Code: |
make menuconfig
make dep clean
make modules modules_install
modules-update
|
of course I loaded the paraller printer support and the other stuff when I ran menuconfig first.
Is this how you recompile your kernel? I'm kinda confused, well anyhow, I reboot just to make sure, with my printer connected and then I type in:
Code: |
modprobe parport
modprobe parport_pc
|
And when I run the printing test nothing happens, this is what I get when I tail /var/log/messages:
Code: |
Oct 10 22:47:20 localhost kernel: floppy0: disk absent or changed during operation
Oct 10 22:47:20 localhost kernel: end_request: I/O error, cmd 0 dev 02:00 (floppy), sector 6
Oct 10 22:47:20 localhost kernel: floppy0: disk absent or changed during operation
Oct 10 22:47:20 localhost kernel: end_request: I/O error, cmd 0 dev 02:00 (floppy), sector 0
Oct 10 22:47:20 localhost kernel: floppy0: disk absent or changed during operation
Oct 10 22:47:20 localhost kernel: end_request: I/O error, cmd 0 dev 02:00 (floppy), sector 2
Oct 10 22:47:20 localhost kernel: floppy0: disk absent or changed during operation
Oct 10 22:47:20 localhost kernel: end_request: I/O error, cmd 0 dev 02:00 (floppy), sector 4
Oct 10 22:47:20 localhost kernel: floppy0: disk absent or changed during operation
Oct 10 22:47:20 localhost kernel: end_request: I/O error, cmd 0 dev 02:00 (floppy), sector 6

This is has nothing to do with the printer as you can see, was just me messing around with my floppy. Well I don't know what to do, any help would be appreciated, because I don't want to run Linux if I can't even print stuff since I need it to write my reports! |

assuming you've got the paralel port or usb or whatever driver in the kernel config, that's probibaly not causing the printer issue, but you don't explain much about the printer issue, so it's hard to tell what's wrong?
did you configure cups at all? |
