problems with radeon 7500 and X on Presario 2800 laptop

I've got problems with the radeon driver and X.
If i chose radeon or ati driver in device section in my XF86Config, starting X graphics is confused, like if some vertical lines missing...
I can use X with vesa driver but it's not the same.
Can anyone help me ?
