Experiences with Gentoo + G5 Quad?

Hi, I'm looking for a good linux distro to install on my G5 Quad that is 64 bit, to use as a minecraft server. I am wondering if anyone here has experience with Gentoo on a G5 Quad system, particularly with installing the 64 bit POWER version of IBM Java 7 or the OpenJDK port to PPC64 Linux. Also, I don't want to install a desktop, but I am curious about framebuffer driver performance for things like watching videos with mplayer.

The main reason I want to install Gentoo in particular on my G5 Quad is to use a modern java for a minecraft server though. It will probably be dedicated to that. I tried using Ubuntu Server 12.10, but I couldn't get the IBM java installation working, and I discovered that it isn't on the list of tested Linux distros for PowerMac G5s, while Gentoo is.

Another thing I might want to use on this is ppc64 python, and if you have had any experience installing that, I would be happy to hear it!
