kmail smtp doesn't work

anyone running kde 3.13/3.14 having problems sending mail via smtp in kmail? i have an identical mail setup on my redhat kde system and i can send mail with no problems. however on my gentoo system kmail says the qeued mail has sent successfully but it never reaches its destination.

i've also installed thunderbird and that too works fine in gentoo so the problem is definitely with kmail smtp. my friend who has also recently migrated from mandrake is experiencing the same problem! we get no error or bounce messages.

so in summary the problem seems to lie within gentoo-kmail with smtp sending. perhaps there's a bug with the latest ebuild or something???
