Hello, my first time using gentoo. I compiled gnome , and it worked fine, and my friend put it on the computer, and he booted into the GUI interface. Now that hes not here, i dont know how to get GUI from command line boot up. He said use "start x", but when i try that, it says it isnt a command. ANy help?

The command is startx without a space, but that just gives you the very basic x windows set up. Edit your /etc/rc.conf and edit the DISPLAYMANAGER= part and type in gdm for that value.

im pretty sure i tried startx and it said not a command, but i'll try again.
Also, gentto had trouble with my monitor for some reason, the res was like 640X480, i cant remember the exact proble, but it was something to do with X.

You need to edit your xf86 config to set your screen resolution to something else. Your monitor and graphics drivers have to all be configged properly too.
