Hello, my first time using gentoo. I compiled gnome , and it worked fine, and my friend put it on the computer, and he booted into the GUI interface. Now that hes not here, i dont know how to get GUI from command line boot up. He said use "start x", but when i try that, it says it isnt a command. ANy help? _________________ If you can't Duct it, f*** it. |

The command is startx without a space, but that just gives you the very basic x windows set up. Edit your /etc/rc.conf and edit the DISPLAYMANAGER= part and type in gdm for that value. |

im pretty sure i tried startx and it said not a command, but i'll try again.
Also, gentto had trouble with my monitor for some reason, the res was like 640X480, i cant remember the exact proble, but it was something to do with X. _________________ If you can't Duct it, f*** it. |

You need to edit your xf86 config to set your screen resolution to something else. Your monitor and graphics drivers have to all be configged properly too. |
