Hi all,
Just a quick post for all those out there that keep running into this problem time and again.
If you dont get this problem then i guess your one of the lucky ones but i have found the issues and a fix that actually works. Well done to all the developers and contributors of the eudev project.
I recently did a fresh install after 6 years of running on the same gentoo system, 6 years without a re-install wow what a record for any computer. Anyway my restart and shutdown buttons were of course missing from my Kmenu Arrrrrggg.
After allot of reading manuals and online documentation i narrowed it down to Consolekit, polkit and the horrible Systemd, i wont go into the painfull debuging of Systemd and the missing openrc use flag but as a tip MAKE SURE YOU PUT use flag in your make.config :-p
Anyway i found a new project eudev NOT udev. This works well, oddly my network devices are named back to ethN again. Seems like systemd wants to call them odd names. I am sure their is good reason for this, or is their?
I removed the use flag Quote: | emerge -avuND world | then emerged eudev
You have to do what it prompts on the screen after install, such as restart udev Quote: | /etc/init.d/udev restart | then add Quote: | rc-update add udev-postmount default | to your default bootup.
Add Quote: | exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session startkde | into your ~/.xinitrc file.
Reboot your systom and KDE works as it should.
Hope someone found this useful. _________________ A WikI, A collection of mass misinformation based on opinion and manipulation by a deception of freedom.
