Hi!
I just installed gentoo linux from the 2-"Athlon XP"-Live-CDs and everything worked nicely until I tried to install KDE.
Emerging the binaries from the CDs worked and I got the x-server configured to run, but when I try startkde, I get an error that kdeinit failed:
kdeinit: error while loading shared libraries: libfam.so.0:
cannnot open shared object: no such file or directory
Is there a way to fix it?
Thx,
Michael

That library is part of FAM (File Alteration Monitor). First thing I would try is issue the command
Code: | emerge -p app-admin/fam-oss |
Check to see what emerge says is installed.
If it's not installed, emerge it by typing the same command as above, but minus the -p. _________________ 1 0

Thank you for the help. That did the trick. What I dont understand is that why the file was missing, eventhough it was already installed? Installing it again seems to have done it right.
