Oh. How weird coz I used this one:
http://ting.homeunix.org/cvs_wine/GetCVSWineX
And it works fine. I can run MP2 with the highest settings on without any problem at all. Sometimes, but very rarely, it lags a bit, but it's not like you can't play the game. It happens sometimes when viewing things on a far disence. With medium settings there is no lags at all.
Should I remove/uninstall GetCVSWineX and use GetCVSWineX_Pthreads instead? _________________ DnB is my religion, Jungle is my church. |

Actually, ignore my post about not being able to download the linux installer. Following the directions on Franks Corner (url posted earlier) the actual windows installer seems to be working fine. Its installing files anway. The page also says that installing a no-cd patch will disable the copy protection which WineX can't handle in the CVS version.
EDIT: Following the instructions on Franks Corner (download dcom98, use no-cd patch) worked perfectly. Game plays without a hitch. Sound is perfect, its fast, looks great.
System:
1.4ghz Athlon
256 ram

Well, pthreads at least were related to new glibc but maybe it's not a problem anymore?. There was also a special parameter which enable threading eg. winex3 -use-pthreads yes .Maybe someone else knows better. |

can't get this thing to run
im using GetCVSWineX_Pthreads, and i installed with the normal installer (installed dcom then ran the setup through cvswinex). i also tried using i6comp.
when running "cvswinex MaxPayne2.exe" i get:
Code: | fixme:win32:PE_CreateModule Load Configuration directory ignored
...[above message around 20 times]...
fixme:win32:PE_CreateModule Load Configuration directory ignored
wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger...
err:seh:start_debugger Couldn't start debugger ("programs/winedbg/winedbg 134697472 180") (2)
Read the Wine Developers Guide on how to set up winedbg or another debugger |
any ideas? _________________ http://dev.gentoo.org/~dsd |

Ehm, where is that installer searching for Max Payne cd? It just tells me to mount the cd (which I did), and the mount point is the first in the fstab file. _________________ "H = F^3: happiness equals to food, fun and friends." --Steve Wozniak |

I got the game installed fine using the installer from Franks Corner, but when I run it I get the same problem I have had before, no keyboard. Now I read loads of posts about how to solve this, both here and on other forums, but none have ever worked except like in Call of Duty where changing the screen resolution a few times recitfies the problem. As you can't do that here I am at a loss. @lurid - what does your wine(x).conf look like?
It is so frustrating sitting through the intro, and being able to start the game, without the ablility to move
Also, what resolution do you play it at?, full screen? _________________ Bunder for president ^o^ |

Oh, right. Now if I'll just
Code: | export SETUP_CDROM=<whateva> | the installer sniffs the CD location correctly.
Now, If I could only get the GetCVSWineX script to install WineX correctly... it crashed when compiling audio.c or something like that... I wonder if my state-of-the-art alsa 1.0.0-rc1 has anything to do with that. _________________ "H = F^3: happiness equals to food, fun and friends." --Steve Wozniak |

Thanks for the Help, cvswinex compiled!
but i've got another problem now. i can't run games i can run with winex-stable and the same configuration file. i allways get the error
Quote: | wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger...
err:seh:start_debugger Couldn't start debugger ("programs/winedbg/winedbg 134694312 92") (2)
Read the Wine Developers Guide on how to set up winedbg or another debugger
|
i don't use a fake win partition, but that shouldn't be the problem since wine and winex-stable run fine.
thanks, lukas |

sorry, my mistake. executed the wrong binary
the cvs-version of GetCVSWineX improved when i installed the winex-cvs ebuild but didn't work fully. the ebuild version runs quite smoothly at 1024x768 and some details on an AthlonXP 1900+ and a gforce mx440
