Hey,

Does anyone have some information about the Internet2?
For what I know now it's a closed high-speed global network using a new protocol callad UDT wich is optimized for large transfers on high ping connections.
I've been on Internet2.org but I can't find so much technical information. Only political.

I would appreciate any info about Internet2 and UDT.

I'm not sure what UDT is, but I2 is essentially a private peering arrangement for internet networks. I2 uses its own BGP mesh and private connections/routes to provide better routing and faster throughput between I2 networks. It is not really a separate network from the internet -- just a better way to get from point A to point B.

I've never set up any I2 networks -- this is just my basic understanding from having used I2 before. And yes... it is very, very fast. At my old Uni, I would frequently download ISOs from one of our I2 neighbors. The download speed was getting limited by the 10 Mb ethernet I was on (I was hitting upwards of 500 KB/sec). I'm not even sure what kind of connection we had to I2, but it obviously wasn't getting used much (except by me :P). :]

Good luck,

Michael

But the I2 doesn't share physical lines with the normal Internet? I2 have special dedicated high-speed optic lines?
