emerge --unmerge =net-libs/webkit-gtk-1.8.3-r300
!!! '--unmerge ' is not a valid package atom.
!!! Please check ebuild(5) for full details.

I can try with -C

auddoula,

In the rescue chroot?
Unlikely - you should not need it to repair your broken main install.

In your mail install, only you can tell. It is a part of Gnome.

wgetpaste /var/tmp/portage/www-client/epiphany-2.30.6-r1/temp/build.log
Your paste can be seen here: http://bpaste.net/show/132735/

or did you mean webkit build? not sure where to find the log file though.

I am in rescue chroot.

Good to see you Neddy
Does
Code:
quickpkg --include-config=y "*/*"
(tested) then exit the rescue chroot
Code:
exit
cd
umount -l /root/rescue/dev{/shm,/pts,}
umount -l /root/rescue{/boot,/proc,}
then update for any changes to /etc/portage/files
Code:
cp -a /root/rescue/etc/portage/* /etc/portage
then update for changes in the world file
Code:
cp -a /root/rescue/var/lib/portage/world /var/lib/portage
then add the packages to portage
Code:
cp -a /root/rescue/usr/portage/packages /usr/portage
Then cross fingers
Code:
emerge --usepkgonly -eav world

make sense?

DONAHUE,

With the bind mounting I was suggesting, packages in the rescue chroot and packages in /usr/portage/packages in the broken install were the same place, so no cp -a was required.

Code:
quickpkg "*/*"
is not required with FEATURES="buildpkg" as the packages already exist.

Code:
quickpkg  --include-config y <packages>
is better or quickpkg will drop all the security sensitive config files, which you may need.
I don't know if it accepts */* to package everything.

Code:
emerge --usepkgonly -eav world
should work.

I am a bit a t loss by now;

mount -o bind /usr/portage /home/<username>/rescue/usr/portage

of course now the latter resides in /root/rescue.

Do I issue thiscommand from main install chroot or rescue chroot?

mount -o bind /usr/portage /home/<username>/rescue/usr/portage

I think too late now

suggest sticking to the road we started (my last post above) when mount -o bind /usr/portage /root/rescue/usr/portage seemed to bork
which chroot are you in now?

I never exited rescue chroot, i.e. chroot within chroot...

I am ready to follow the road you laid out, but I guess there has to be some changes to quickpkg. I am all ears now.

I guess you made that change already... I am ready to give it a shot.

Ok, we shall see...

In the meantime '*/*' for quickpkg appears to be working. I don't know how long it will take, but it will be nice to have the system back before I go to sleep.. :)
