|
|
Hi,
I have a problem connecting a linux client to a nfs server. On the server is linux2.6-test4 with nfsd (nfs-utils 1.0.5) runnning (network, the /etc/exports, etc are OK), the client runs Gentoo as well - when I want to connect to the server I do a:
'mount -t nfs 10.0.0.10:/home /mnt/nfs'
This command never returns and seems to hang, but when I kill it from another shell, the connection is really established - BUT there is no connection until I kill the mount command !!
Any hints will be appreciated (since I already had this problem on other linux, nfs [version] combinations)
Thanks,
Mario |

Firstly, ensure that you start the /etc/init.d/nfs service on the client as well as the server. This ensures that file locking semantics work properly, among other things. Secondly, try using proper hostname resolution. If you don't have a DNS server, then make sure that each host is aware of itself and the other in their respective /etc/hosts files so that the fully qualitifed hostname (and shortened alias) of each resolves properly in all cases. Then try using the hostname instead of the IP address.
Also, please note that it isn't necessary to use the -t nfs parameter. |

Thanks for the response,
you are right, running the nfs daemon on both (client/server) linux boxes will solve the problem of the hanging mount command - but I want to boot a diskless workstation and the nfs-server holds the nfs-root-filesystem ... so the nfs-server should work 'on its own' ... I will update the kernel as well as nfs-utils and give it another try.
