i am trying to remove a whole directory tree (one directory with several sub- and sub-sub-directories.
rm -d on the base directory gives "cannot unlink <basedir>, is a directory
how do i remove the whole tree with one commands, or do i have to go through every directory and remove them one by one? _________________ 95% of all computer errors occur between chair and keyboard (TM)

rm -r (recursive) should do the job ... _________________ good things come to those who ....................... wait |

I'd strongly recommend to use rm -r for removing directory-trees. rm -s might cause filesystem inconsistency in some cases, and that's not worth the speed!

Be very careful with 'rm -r'. It is not forgiving Perhaps 'rm -ir' would be worth mentioning. (-i Prompt for confirmation.). Also 'man rm' _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |
