Hi
I've just done the migration to GRUB 2 according to the official migration guide. Works like a charm so far.
However, I had GRUB 1 configured with fallback. In other words, if a newly installed kernel fails to boot, the box reboots and then automatically boots another known-to-work kernel. This is very useful since I don't have physical access to the box.
hydrapolic has written a short guide on how to do a similar thing with GRUB 2, however, he's manually maintaining grub.cfg. I would like to stick to the generated grub.cfg file and therefore can't do it this way.
A solution has been documented for Ubuntu. I'm not sure whether it can be used for Gentoo as well since both distros might have tampered the default config files of GRUB 2. Hence the question: Has anybody done this?
And for some bonus points: After removing GRUB 1, there are still GRUB 1 files in /boot/grub. I'd like to clean this dir and zap all files not required by GRUB 2. But I'm not sure which files belong to GRUB 1, GRUB 2 or both.
Thanks a bunch for your hints! |
