Hi I am writing this using lynx....its not that easy to navigate believe it or not
I am getting an error

linux/icantremmember.h ...no such file or directory

well the file in question is in my /usr/src/linux/icantremmembe.h

but somehow make does not see it and my nice new gentoo build is all held up by it.

any thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks :) (lynx emoticon)

oh ya I tried using a different ebuild for alsa-driver... same error

Edit: modversions.h is what it is looking for in the kernel source, and it is not there....I tried re-emerge-ing gentoo-sources but it is still gone, I don't understand? I will try using ck-sources or something tommorrow.

If it is modversions.h which can't be found - it SHOULD reside in /usr/src/linux/include/linux/modversions.h

AFAIK, modversions.h is only created
a) when you compile a kernel from these sources and
b) when you have support for modules activated in your kernel

In addition, be sure you have the symlink "/usr/src/linux" set to the sources you compiled the kernel you are actually have running now!

If all you need is modversions.h, simply do

Code:
# make dep

that'll do, you don't need to continue with the process...

actually I fixed that one easily enough.

my new problem is.....

Code:
In file included from ../alsa-kernel/core/memalloc.c:27
                    from memalloc.c:28:
/usr/src/linux/include/linux/proc_fs.h:213: redefinition of 'PDE'
/var/tmp/portage/alsa-driver-0.9.2/work/alsa-driver-0.9.2/include/adriver.h:111:
'PDE' previously defined here
make[1]: *** [memalloc.o] Error 1

.......and you know the rest of the story ......make goes bow down and gently slips below the surface.
