Hello! I just wanted to let you know that the new Wine, available here:
http://www.winehq.com/?announce=1.80
is a LOT better than previous ones! Xrandr support is great, and what they didn't tell you is that DirectX 8 support is a LOT better! I have been able to launch (with graphical bugs, sometimes severe) the following apps that would not start before:
C & C Renegade
Dungeon Siege
In the case of Dungeon siege, it would start before, but now you can see the menu graphics, and after an excruciatingly long loading time, play the game!!! It has many graphics glitches (at least on my ATI) but it's doing a whole lot better!! Check it out!

Yes!!! Ufo: Aftermath works perfectly in new wine (if played in window)! Intro is much faster (smooth actually) than in previous version! Great job! |

You'd need it installed in Windows first, before you try to copy it over since there is no installer-shield support.
Star Trek: Elite Force runs flawlessly, except when I go to play single-player it says to insert the CD even though I have it inserted and mounted. _________________ "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we, they never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." Wine has many of the installshield fixes in it, but I am not sure that they work correctly. I tried to install Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe (free game ) and install acted like it worked perfectly - only to find out that the directory I created for it was empty. Hmm. Anyone have any ideas on that one?

I think I have solved the installshield problem in wine before - I just can't remember how I did it
I think I downloaded dcom98 and made a haxx, but I worked fine after that
I know there is a thread regarding this issue...
I think I will look for it _________________ Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes. |

Everyone tells me that Warcraft III is working perfectly in Wine, but I never managed to get it work. It installed flawlessly, but whenever I try to start it:
Code: | wine -- war3.exe -opengl |
I just get a black screen. |

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that I used a Windows install for Dungeon Siege etc.
Also, I have installed DCOM98, which may be why installshield mostly works.

intro lags for me, exactly like it does in windows, did you do anything specific with your wine conf?
also what kind of display adapter do you have?
I have a radeon, radeon linux drivers + wine's 2d performance = not a good game experience :/, it's too slow to be playable. |

I guess it's radeon.. I'm using nvidia gf3ti500. I haven't done any major changes to wine config. |
