I am trying to learn the R statistics language/environment, and I emerged dev-lang/R-2.10.1 with the following flags:

When I run the example(plot) demo, I get the X11 window to appear, but it is blank. Resizing the window causes the plot to appear.
I bit of googling uncovered the following:

Where it says that someone else had the same problem, and it was found that a different version of cairo fixed the problem, but both the versions of R and the versions of ciaro were all older than the ones I have installed:
x11-libs/cairo-1.12.14-r4
dev-lang/R-2.10.1
Is this possibly a regression? I am brand new to R, but quite experienced in X, unix, linux, and gentoo, so I did not want to subscribe to the R mailing list just yet, hoping that someone in the gentoo community had seen this before. Unfortunately, googling for the letter "R" gives overly prolific (and mostly meaningless) results; they really ought to change the name to something more googlable.

After some major updates to the X stuff in gentoo a week ago, it seems that R now works properly when trying to display graphs in X11.
Problem Solved! 
PS: These updates also fixed some other X related problems I was having as well.
