hi! i DID read all those radeon threads on these boards, but i couldn't find anything to solve this problem:
I've been using a matrox parhelia and didn't like the driver at all so i got myself a radeon9600 instead.
i followed the howto thread (https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=73260) and got 2D running now.
i fail at running 3D applications though. (glxgears only 200 fps)
glxinfo gives me this:

i guess the problem is that the driver is using mesas opengl.
opengl-update ati does NOT help - i did this for about 5 times...
please help me a little, i'm getting quite desperate... |

ok, i found a solution on another board. but being the newbie that i am, i am unable to understand what to do
Code: |
Resolved:
changed line 5847 in the agpgart_be.c file in /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod to read
via_kt400_setup
Since I have a KT400 chipset. Rebuilt the module manually and inserted
install fglrx /sbin/insmod fglrx
into /etc/modules.conf (RH10Beta)
now fglrxinfo shows
scarter]# fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Radeon 9600 Athlon (3DNow!)
OpenGL version string: 1.3 (X4.3.0-3.2.5)
and 3D works fine. Hope this helps.
|
I don't have this directory: /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod
and i am pretty unsure as to how i would manually recompile the module, and what this: "install fglrx /sbin/insmod fglrx" does...
please, someone help me.... |

flgx is the ati rpm binary on their site. The R350mv chipset is a POS and the chipset is barely supported. I too bought the card and I've since replaced it with an all in wonder 9700 pro I got off ebay for $60 more than I paid for the 9600pro.
My advice? Return it. Official Xfree support isn't due until December at the earilest.
but to answer your question, that's why you don't have flgx, if you didn't download the driver from ATI. |
