apache won't start

I just installed apache 1.3.28 and the mod_ssl. I have changed no config file, but it doesn't work. I don't get an error message when starting apache. Only [!!] instead of the normal [ok] at the end of the line.

start command:

/etc/init.d/apache start

/etc/init.d/apache status tells me that it is not running.

In the /etc/apache/logs/error_log is the following entry:
[Fri Oct 17 22:05:30 2003] [alert] mod_unique_id: unable to gethostbyname("bach")

I found some threads in this forum.

I just had to add a line in /etc/hosts
