Hello all. Testing out the Gentoo waters - thought I'd stop here and say hi.
I must say, the complete and 'udder' control (choice) that Gentoo gives you - and the ease at which it does so - is staggering.
I am hung up with some Grub stuff, but other than that, the install has went well.
I don't know yet whether I'll be switching everything to Gentoo, but as of right now I could easily envision Gentoo being a potential primary desktop! The lure of blazing, stable, custom programs is vewy, vewy, strong! Glad to be here. _________________ -Thanks!- |

Welcome, I hope you stay. As for grub, you are not alone. But it's a most needed evil, since there's no other bootloader that can do what it does. |

m00 korilius :-)
Welcome to Gentoo! Where you'll never have to reinstall (unless you majorly mess-up;) and no more weird behaviour from mismatched libs, followed by yaf 6-monthly reinstall for more weirdness.
Please take a look at these tips, particularly FEATURES=buildpkg which is very useful should you need to rollback a package; not often needed, but very very useful when required.
Regards,
steveL. |

i used lilo first time i installed gentoo, its easy, im familiar with it. syslinux works well for a boot loader too if the /boot is ntfs or fat32. ext{1-4} or btrfs for extlinux. i use grub2 sometimes too. the boot loaders wiki pages are pretty good around this distribution. |

Just finished my first gentoo installation! Does this mean I'm a Gentoo user now? Can't wait to get a desktop through Gentoo setup and compare it with my Debian desktop. _________________ -Thanks!- |
