does anyone know of youtube alternatives? i need a cms to deal with videos. so far i have found http://blog.plumi.org/download/ & http://mediadrop.net/ but neither are in portage. they dont need to be in portage but it would help if they were. i accept overlays too.

how far does it need to be a replacement for youtube?

for just playing a video hosted on a network-accessible server you could simply make them avaiable via http and use a video-player capable of streaming, e.g. mplayer(2), mpv...

For 5 years I'v been building video sites and mainly with Drupal.
It has quite the steep curve for CMS'es out there, but I love it.
It might be a bit over the top but at least you wont be rebuilding from scratch if you decide to add functionality.

Unless you just want a on the fly streaming service, then stick with DLNA services (I think there are some packages in tree like ps3mediaserver)

its for university / corporate settings. so yeah mostly just videos. live streams would be good too. i dont see how dlna would fit into that, and i have looked at minidlna.
