In the text on this page, https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Xorg/Configuration, it describes how to make settings for framebuffer while compiling the kernel. Specifically, it shows:

Device Drivers --->
Graphics support --->
Support for frame buffer devices --->
## (Disable all drivers, including VGA, Intel, nVidia, and ATI)

## (Further down, enable basic console support. KMS uses this.)
Console display driver support --->
<*> Framebuffer Console Support

My question is what is the difference between the two sections here handled differently. On the one hand, support is disabled for all drivers related to frame buffer devices, but on the other hand we should enable framebuffer console support. I don't really understand what the difference is in these two features, and I was hoping someone could explain it to me.

In addition, how would either of these settings affect the ability of using a splash screen configured with genkernel in connection with this setting:

--[no-]splash
Activates [or deactivates] support for framebuffer splash support in the genkernel-built initrd image. To override the default theme used by fbsplash, use --splash=<PreferredTheme> (where <PreferredTheme> is the title of one of the directories inside the /etc/splash directory.

They say right after how to set YOUR SPECIFIC driver; mine is intel:

Code:
Device Drivers --->
  Graphics support --->
    /dev/agpgart (AGP Support) --->
    <*>  Intel 440LX/BX/GX, I8xx and E7x05 chipset support
    Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support) --->
    <*>  Intel 8xx/9xx/G3x/G4x/HD Graphics
    [*]    Enable modesetting on intel by default

I use to print kernel config's from this howtos and make it just once (yes, I'm learning how gentoo works and I already have broke my system :P).

I don't know how it changes the splash.
