|

I thought I would try getting sawfish to do stuff on its own, independant of a GNOME install. It's pretty minimal, but if you hack the menu lisp file and use:
Code: |
xv -root -rmode 5 -quit <IMAGE>
|
to get a background going it almost becomes useable.
I was just wondering:
a) Does anyone still use it on its own anymore?
There are very few sites alive refering to it..
b) Can I get the lisp files to start xv on startup (putting it in the xinitrc crashes the xserver)
c) Are there any window managers out there that dont use evil lisp and are currently still supported, designed to be built on like sawfish seems to?
Basically, I am bored with Window Maker. Its been a year since anything has gone wrong and half the fun of Linux is fixing stuff The lack of skins and *real* customisation bothers me.
Is there anything more exciting out there? |

It's absolutely shameless promotion, but well, Kahakai is definitely not as extensible as Sawfish (yet) but we're going in that direction and we have support for Python (and Ruby with SWIG, wrapper generator, CVS version).
We're getting new 0.x releases about every month. |

Wow, Fantastic website - I'm sold already... (Cheap floosey that I am ).
Shameless plugs are often the most handy! I shall definitely give it a shot - thanks.
Any other contenders? - hell this could be great advertising
It's nice to see a linux window manager that is still alive and kicking. (that isn't KDE or GNOME *sic*) |
