Okay. First, the problems. First of all, I use love-sources-2.6.3-r1. But I've had these problems with other 2.6 kernels. Anyway, I have some annoying thing where, whenever I do apm --suspend, the machine doesn't recognize my USB mouse anymore. When I do cat /dev/usbmouse, nothing comes out when I move the mouse around.

Second problem is that, if I go into X and then exit it, or do ctrl+alt+f*, the console looks fucked up. I'll try to post a picture later. But it's in a small small resolution, and the text sorta overlaps the last line of text. I use VESA @ vga=791. This doesn't happen in 2.4.x.

And now, the question. Could somebody link me to a nice, easy to follow guide to using Bootsplash with 2.6? With the boot up screen?

Thanks, Stu.

Are you using a NVIDIA card? If you are, turn off RIVA TNT2 support in your kernel frambuffer menu. use the vesa one instead.

Hmm. I've never been able to get bootsplash going in 2.6, it just shows the penguin in the corner. (gentoo-dev-sources) I guess I need a new initrd since i never made a new one after the kernel upgrade.

I don't think a new initrd will do the trick because that's what I did and still can't get the 2.4-style boot splash. AFAICT I have all the correct kernel cfg settings too...

My mistake. I was seeing the same thing as you, created a new initrd and it didn't fix it. I remerged bootsplash-something-or-other, found a "m" setting for a kernel cfg item that req'd "y" for bootsplash and it's working again...

Hmm. What kernel config option was that? The one you changed to "y" from "m"?
