Reinstalling with systemd. No particular reason other than I want to learn it.
I do not use a ramfs with my current kernel, but the articles I have read made it sound like I need to.
I'm still compiling and haven't rebooted, but I just wanted to know what to expect.

From what I heard, unless you have split off /usr partition, you don't need an initramfs...

There are a number of terms that you might be referring to: ramfs/tmpfs/initramd/rootfs https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/filesystems/ramfs-rootfs-initramfs.txt

If its an initramd image I can confirm eccerr0r's post cause I never used one in my systems and mine has been booting stable without a glich since last week's update to Gnome 3.8 with systemd. Actually the transition was smooth in my case.

As it turns out it isn't needed.

Thanks,
