I am at a loss, I can't see what I am doing wrong.
Here is what I get when rebooting after install : "GRUB _ " in top left of screen. I have searched and tried a few different thing but the end result is the same. I have had Gentoo installed previously and messed something up by accident so I decided to start over fresh.
system:
Epox 8rda+, Athlon 2500+, 512 mb Corsair XMS, Radeon 9600 Pro, SB Live! ,Two Hitachi deathstars, 41gb each.
hda1- ntfs(winxp)
hda2- /boot ext3
hda3- swap
hda5- / reiserfs
hdb1- vfat(storage)
followed install docs for setup
grub.conf
default 0
timeout 30
splashimage=(hd0,1)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title=Gentoo Linux 1.4
root (hd0,1)
kernel (hd0,1)/boot/bzImage root=/dev/hda5
I have tried the above without the /boot in the conf as well.
I have reinstalled 6 times this weekend all with the same result.
I can start to boot from the floppy but then I get kernel panic : unable to mount root fs :03:05
using ac-sources.
Any Ideas.
I use the method to boot with the dummy bin file so as to not touch the boot sector. It has worked flawless before.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Shawn

looks like a typo. what about changing your kernel line in grub to Code: | kernel (hd0,1)/boot/bzImage root=/dev/hda4 |
i.e. hda4 instead of hda5?
BTW are you sure about the partition numbers? If you're correct then it looks like all 4 partitions on your first HD are primary partitions; there's nothing wrong with that, just odd. |

After all the trials I forgot to update the bin file on my floppy. Apparently my partition setup is different now. Fresh install and a new linux.bin file dropped into windows C: drive and I'm in. Stupid me :smacks forehead: |
