Was it ever included as part of any sort of standard gnome packages? I know it wasn't during the gnome 1.4 era, and I'm fairly certain it wasn't with gnome 2.0. I don't think it was with gnome 2.2 either.

It always seemed like an independant project, unlike Epiphany.

I used to miss that until i discovered "gg:<your search here>"

I know gg, but I would have to type 3 more characters then
Another thing missing in konqueror IMO is an option to have fixed width tab buttons. Visual appearance aside, all tabs should be treated equally :)

I went from firebird to epiphany and right back to firebird. It might be me but it seems firebird renders pages quicker, also i hate double clicking the address bar to type a new address in like you have to do in epiphany, one click firebird knows you want the whole address. Also the google bar i like a lot better than typing it in the address bar. Also seems a lot more options (middle clicking opens in a new tab is amazing). I would like it to be GTK2 themeable but you can't win them all.

I'd prefer Epiphany if it acted a little more like Firebird. :?
They're a whole bunch of little things about it too -- like the fact I need some GNOME config tool to be able to change my associations (as opposed to /etc/mailcap Firebird uses), to not focusing on the URL input bar in a new tab to not being able to tab across results in teh URL search bar (you know, the type in http://forums. and it brings up every page you've viewed that begins with that?). If it weren't for those three things, I could look past the fact there's no real way to do mouse gestures (or is there?) and start using Epiphany instead of Firebird.

So, overall, I'd have to say my favorite is still Firebird, although Epiphany shows potential as well.

Oh yeah, I also don't like how CTRL+U doesn't delete the current line like I'm used to doing in most programs. That's something that's always annoyed me with GNOME-based programs.

This is also done in konq-cvs's new tab support.

Another vote for Firebird here..

I was a _big_ Galeon fan, but after Gnome 2.4 switched to Epiphany, I haven't bothered to get either Epiphany or Mozilla...

Dillo is useless. If you really want minimal go with graphical links. Faster because of no GTK+ deps. Besides Epiphany/Galeon aren't slow at all.

Firebird : +1 vote
(will be perfect when Phoenity theme will be upgraded to 0.7)

<rant>By the way, I don't understand how epiphany became the official Gnome browser... it's sad to say the least. That bookmark window is among the most annoying feature ever made. May be I missed the option to get rid of it, but after 2 hours I get rid of the browser all at once. </rant>

I like Mozilla. It has a lot of preferences that really let you customize how it looks and operates. Firebird seemed just a little too slimmed down for my taste, but I'll definitely keep an eye on its progress.

Well i was a diehard fan of galeon (1.2.x that is, i've never liked 1.3.x) but the darn thing was way too mem consuming, so i decided to try firebird and i totally got hooked. It's fast, it's good looking and it does a very good memory management.

I like Firebird, but I'm being annoyed lately by all gecko browsers just crashing on certain pages. It makes surfing the net in gnome almost impossible. I wish this was fixed, as it was excellent before this problem. See, it works lovely on Windows.

My GF can be just trying to read yahoo mail and it will crash. I'm sure if this isn't fixed, I'll have to go back to running windows.
I'm sure there is a library problem of somesort that is causing this. I've tried both compiled and binary installs and it's just not working, been like this for 3 weeks now I guess.

Strange i've also tryied that page and it works fine, and i also hava a Yahoo email and it doesn't crash either. You must have some weird prob. Try running it from the CLI and see what error it gives when it crashes

Epiphany crashes with it's little error box that lets you do a crash report. I think this is part of gnome though. Firebird and Mozilla crash without errors, the browser just shuts down.
There is no error when running from CLI. You know this is really driving me batty, and it's crossed my mind more than once to install a different Linux distribution to solve the problem. I will wait it out maybe another week or two, but if it's not fixed by then, I'll have to get rid of this and try something different.

Works here too with Mozilla 1.5.

Maybe try reducing your cflags or clearing out your ~/.mozilla directory.

Perhaps if worst comes to worst you might want to `emerge -e world` as well.
