hello, this is my first post, i've built hundreds of gentoo boxes and i've done pretty good up until now. i'm replacing a backuppc server with gentoo, zfs, ssd caching, and of course backuppc.
its a brand new 240GB SSD, that is on the motherboards internal sata port. the live cd boots fine, and the system compiles fine. i always use lilo, and in this case i also tried grub2.
when the system reboots it shows the following error with grub

when i try lilo, i get

the motherboard is a https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M3A78EM/
i tried changing the bios sata mode from sata to ahci, neither made a difference. I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version. The system used to boot off of a raid5 on a lsi sata controller, so thats whats changed. I could rebuild the raid 5, however the plan was to boot on the ssd with the system, and use the other disks for zfs.
anyone ever run into an issue like this?
thanks in advanced |

If the board supports UEFI booting, you could try disabling that and just go with CSM/Legacy emulation (whatever they happen to call it). It may work more reliably. If you were trying that, you could try EFI booting instead.
It's unusual to see bootloader problems like that - can you detail the exact steps you've taken to install the bootloaders? |
