Hello,
I'm trying to set the battery charging thresholds on my ThinkPad R40 (it is my first battery so I never had to handle this kind of stuff). I decided to use TLP, following the instructions here: https://github.com/dywisor/tlp-portage/blob/maint/README.rst - basically it means adding the overlay with the help of layman, emerge it together with tp_smapi. OK, I found out that my R40 doesn't work well with tp_smapi: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Tp_smapi#R_series. I just get errors like:
Code: | modprobe tp_smapi
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'tp_smapi': No such device |
and
Code: | dmesg | grep thinkpad
[ 0.664900] thinkpad_acpi: ThinkPad ACPI Extras v0.24
[ 0.665096] thinkpad_acpi: http://ibm-acpi.sf.net/
[ 0.665257] thinkpad_acpi: ThinkPad BIOS 1PET65WW (1.33 ), EC unknown
[ 0.666105] thinkpad_acpi: detected a 8-level brightness capable ThinkPad
[ 0.678681] thinkpad_acpi: Console audio control enabled, mode: monitor (read only)
[ 0.681203] input: ThinkPad Extra Buttons as /devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/input/input4
[ 41.361952] thinkpad_ec: no ThinkPad embedded controller!
[ 43.772578] thinkpad_ec: no ThinkPad embedded controller!
[ 541.661769] thinkpad_ec: no ThinkPad embedded controller!
[ 1407.138811] thinkpad_ec: no ThinkPad embedded controller!
[ 1998.597687] thinkpad_ec: no ThinkPad embedded controller! |
As kind of a last resort I updated the BIOS and the Embedded Controller Software but the errors remained.
(I wonder why it says it has no embedded controller but IBM/Lenovo provides software to update it?)
So - what could I use to determine the charging thresholds? Or is there no way to do it?
Regards,
