Hi all,

after running Gentoo happily for the last 2-3 months. I decided to install a new GeForce4 gfx card. Now the system will lock up when booting.
If I disable my onboard USB ports in the BIOS then everything is fine, except that I don't have USB. :(
The gfx card and the USB controller are using the same interrupt.

Can anyone give me a hint as to where I can tweak something to get USB and my GeForce working. I haven't found an option in the BIOS to change the IRQs
I'm using gentoo-2.4.20 sources, with my own configuration. The mother board is an Intel i845 with onboard gfx (which I don't want to use anymore.)
I disabled hotplug just to make sure.

Regards

you have to go into the bios and disable onboard gfx
while your in there make sure pnp OS os OFF and pci/pnp is set to manual...now you can assign irq's

Did that.

Couldn't find an option for that. It's an Award BIOS.

Well I can assign an IRQ to an interrupt line (is that the right phrase) but I can't assign an IRQ to a specific device.
The GeForce and the USB 1.1 control are both on the same interrupt line, so I can only change the IRQ for both of them at the same time.
I did do some fiddling around, but I had no luck it always hangs.
The GeForce and the USB always have the same IRQ (which I can change, but a different IRQ for both devices doesn't help).

The funny thing is that the Gentoo live CD works just fine, I can boot of that with no problems and all hardware is recognized.

I think what I need is to either tell the kernel to assign IRQ N PCI Device x:y:z or the USB kernel driver to only use PCI device x:y:z

anymore ideas?

Adi

No I haven't, didn't know about that option.
Will try in a couples of days.
I'm at work at the moment and will be at home again on Thursday.

Hi,

I tried that with the pci=biosirq option.
But still no luck.
Grrr.

Thanks for the help, btw.
