waiting for ttmkfdir.o.lock to be removed

I keep getting this error message when I try to emerge anything that tries to pull this down ttmkfdir

waiting for ttmkfdir.o.lock to be removed
the above is hust an endless loop until I control C

I am not using distcc or anything fanciful

My spec

gentoo 1.4 stable
Gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r7
Athlon XP2500+
1GB DDR 333 Ram
Gigabyte mb
maxtor ata 133 40gb drive
Nvidia TI 4200 GFX
4gb seagate 40mb-sec scsi

I tried using an older ebuild but still same error

using -march=athlon-xp -O3 -fomit-frame-pointer
USE="X gtk gtk2 gnome qt kde java 3dnow xmms gimp alsa"
no feature or makeopts set

Any idea ??

ooops sorry

I did a search on ttfmkdir errors and got a 0 this is why I posted found problem now emerge -C libtool && emerge libtool did the trick
