Hi everyone,
I've installed Gentoo and gotten everything configured, but there a few start-up messages that are bothering me. First, when I start-up or run dmesg, I get these messages concerning ACPI:

PCI: Using ACPI for IRQ routing
PCI: if you experience problems, try using option 'pci=noacpi' or even 'acpi=off'

If anybody could give me some help in resolving these errors, I'd very much appreciate it. |

It looks like your nforce motherboard doesn't like ACPI too much. Try passing the kernel "acpi=off" at boot time. |

whosrodney,
Have you tried what your typeout suggested as the bottom line?
pci=noacpi or acpi=off _________________ I am a SIGNATURE VIRUS, help me spread - attach me to your signature file. |

So, then, there is no way to use ACPI?
Also, how would I pass such parameters to the kernel at boot time? |

Unless your machine is a laptop, ACPI probably won't provide any useful functions (battery charge monitoring, fan speed control, etc.)

when you boot to the GRUB menu, press "e" to edit your kernel line and add acpi=off at the end, then press "b" to boot. To make the change permanent, edit /boot/grub/grub.conf the same way.
If you use LILO, you can pass kernel parameters by adding them after the name of the kernel at the boot: prompt. |

APM can also turn off the computer, and it works without screwing-up the IRQ routing.

Yeah, I suppose when I pry myself away from Gentoo, turning off the computer is a good thing. |

I use Lilo. So, can you tell me what I do need to do to turn ACPI off and APM on?
Thanks for the help. |

whosrodney,
As indicated a few posts above, type in your kernel name, and then any arguments after that. For example, if your kernel name is "bzImage", type
"bzImage pci=noacpi apci=off" at the LILO "boot:" prompt. To make the changes permanent, edit your lilo.conf file when you get the system booted properly. |
