Gentoo-BSD a bit more information please....

Hello everyone, i have gentoo-bsd currently installed on some virtual machines, at this point i have the base installed plus the X server, i would like to install a DE but i have no idea wich ones are compatible wtih gentoo-bsd i tried them all but they all fail at some point... I did ask for some help on gentoo-bsd irc but no answer.... Anyway i would like to know how can i find whats compatible with gentoo-bsd and whats not, what works and what doesnt, is it pssible to use freebsd ports if so how, any sort of information about it....
I know its still in a very early stage so i would like to help too, even if its as a user view.
