I was playing around with the stuff in /proc/acpi and I notice that my laptop, a Thinkpad T21, has a CPU temp of about 41 when idle and 82 when the system is working hard compiling stuff. Is this normal?
My system has been a little flakey lately (once in a while freezing solid, unpingable) and I'm just wracking my brain to try to figure out why. |

Seriously that might be a little hot you could think about using speedsteping linked in with the temperature (so have a small shell script that checks the temperature via cron say every 5 minutes and if the thing is getti ng to hot steps the speed down)
However my laptop also get extreamly hot during emerges to the point that I now balance the thing ontop serveral books at each corner to allow the fan to suck in more air

I have a Thinkpad T41. Normal Temp. = Normal use =~ 41.0 C w/ the fan going none stop.
Seriously, it does get quite annoyingly warm during compilation or playing media files. I would hope that this is normal also, considering the fluctuation of the temp--hovering around 41.0-C and 45.0-C.
Speedstepin' --now, that sounds interesting. I was wondering how you've done it and the results?  I sure would like to see my FAN and CPU chill-out once in a while as oppose to revvin' ridiculously on end. And it gets quite hot, then.
