I'm trying to get GLX driving with ati-radeon but I'm running into problems.

I installed the new driver, then updated world.

When I run glxinfo I get this error

Code:
altus tyler # glxinfo
name of display: :0
X Error of failed request:  BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request:  154 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request:  19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
Serial number of failed request:  12
Current serial number in output stream:  12
altus tyler #

Any ideas on a solution? Google hasn't been any help

Did you try the stable version instead of the beta one?

here's what happens when I unmask it

It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously.  If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously. You may want to try a larger value of
the --backtrack option, such as --backtrack=30, in order to see if
that will solve this conflict automatically.

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

Well, one thing I would do is get rid of all the extra video cards
set VIDEO_CARDS="radeon" in make.conf (yes a few pkgs will need to be recompiled.

But apart from that what does "emerge -pv mesa mesa-progs" return (I want to see what flags are being set)

I added that line, ran emerge --update but I have no packages to update

Here's the output of emerge -pv mesa mesa-progs

Code:

altus% emerge -pv mesa mesa-progs

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

what does this return "emerge -pvuDN --with-bdeps y @world"

Edit to add: you may want to change from radeon to radeonsi as that covers the 7### series

Changed the line, here's the output. I've been having problems with busybox and some use flags, but that's unrelated

You can run "emerge -1av xorg-drivers mesa", restart X and then see what happens with glxinfo

I'm not sure what else to try other than downgrading to 14.1_beta and who knows if that will fix it.

Maybe someone else will stop by with an idea.

Your xorg.conf is missing a Device section or Driver "fglrx" line.
